Kerik’s appointment was made in the interest of the people

Dear Editor,

I refer to a letter by Eusi Kwayana captioned “Kerik’s appointment was made without regard to due process” (07.02.13). Mr. Kwayana apparently doesn’t live in Guyana or wants to ignore the need for our police force to receive as much help as possible for the much talked about reform of the force.

I have researched Mr. Bernard Kerik who was the former Police Commissioner of New York, which speaks for itself; the man had to be of some calibre in order to receive such a post. Any person who is in the spotlight receives both negative and positive remarks from society but that should not deter our Government from hiring Mr. Kerik to advise on our security reform process. President Jagdeo has made it clear that Kerik will not be physically involved but will serve in an advisory role. Mr. Kerik has a lot of experience in the security area and would help a lot in the reform of our security forces which will at the end of the day benefit our nation, which is paramount.

Yours faithfully,

Andrew Wilson
