‘Firestorm’ lived up to the hype

Thirst Park was never so jammed in a long time. Digicel descended with a hype show that saw the venue jumping to the sounds of home-grown music and celebrating brilliant design two Fridays ago.

Maybe it can be termed revenge for Michelle Cole and Trevor Rose the designing combo who makeup Facts ‘n Roses and who were chosen by Digicel to design costumes for its Mash band ‘Firestorm’. Revenge this writer would say because the last show presented there by the duo, their launch called ‘Storm’, though well presented drew only a handful of people. This time around it was wild.

The whole park was filled from end to end as models streamed out from backstage to a central pod constructed for them to strut their stuff on.

The costumes featured red plumes and circular shapes depicting the sun with rays coming off them. Maybe these rays inspired the artistes who performed that night; or perhaps it was just because they knew they were under the Digicel banner; or maybe was it the Mingles Band which jammed and run the place red. Anyhow, it was a night when Guyana triumphed; showing the ultimate step that must be taken for artistes here is for them to get exposure outside these shores.

Artistes who performed at the show included Passion who early on had the park rocking in anticipation of what was to come. His performances went well with those of comedians Linden ‘Jumbie’ Jones and Henry Rodney who entertained with some ‘after dark’ jokes.

Somewhere after 11 pm Mingles introduced themselves and were followed closely by Fojo and the Platinum squad. These youths are pretty talented but rather than complaining about the quality of the sound should learn to work with it.

DJ Garwin from King Scorpion entertained the venue for a minute then it was back to live performances by Shelly G who seemed to have a good night before Big Red then Malo entertained both influencing the crowd to jump, wave and get on bad. The headliners X2 cemented their popularity locally, partying to some time after 2 am in red (everywhere one looked in the park on Friday was predominantly red) but peaceful environment.basstone @lycos com
