The Guyana Squash Association (GSA) Bounty Farm Handicap tournament continued Thursday night at the Georgetown Club with surprise wins and defeats.
In the open category Allan Downes (+12) succeeded in defeating Jerozena Bell (-15) 15/-2 and 15/3. National under-19 champion Kristian Jeffrey (-30) played Shane Samuels (+12) who beat Jeffrey 15/-13, 14/15 and 15/-11.
Chantelle Fernandes played Keisha Jeffrey (+12) and lost 15/6 and 15/8 while Alex Gouveia (+6), a formidable national men’s player, barely edged a victory over Julian Chin (-25).
Meanwhile, Wednesday night’s action played off with category A matches that included Abhishek Singh (+8) who defeated Robert Hiscock (+4) 15/10, 17/16 and Victoria Arjoon (+6) defeated Lee Fung-a-Fat (+8) 15/12, 15/13.
Hassan Mahtat (+10) surrendered by walkover to Ashley Khalil (0), Hubert Forrester (+4) forfeited his match to Brandon Bento (+12) by walkover and national women’s hockey player Maria Munroe (+12) overcame Nicholas Persaud (0) 15/13, 15/13.
In a close encounter former national squash player Lydia Fraser (+6) narrowly lost to junior player Nicholas Narain (-2) 17/14, 15/13.
In the match-up among juniors, Jason Khalil (-2) lost to the reigning Caribbean under-13 champion Mary Fung-a-Fat (+6) 15/4, 15/11, Kayla Jeffrey (0), a rising national junior player, lost to veteran Turan Mohabeer (-10) 15/12, 15/9.
