Private Craig of 241 Coy copped the best boxer title when the Guyana Defence Force’s (GDF) Inter-Unit Novices Boxing Champion-ship climaxed on Friday night at the GDF Base Camp Ayanganna.
A GDF release stated that Private Craig and Private Griffith of 4 Engineers Battalion electrified the auditorium at Camp Ayanganna, as they unleashed their artillery at each other in their welterweight bout.
According to the release, eleven units across the force battled for the coveted title of Champion Unit of the year 2007; 241 Coy went on to win the prestigious title for the second consecutive year while 31 Special Forces Squadron and First Infantry Battalion tied for second place.
The ‘Best Coach’ title went to Corporal Crawford of 241 Coy. Private Caulder of Training Corps won the Flyweight title while Private Rock of 241 Coy won the Bantamweight division.
Private Gibson of 241 Coy claimed the Featherweight crown with Private Williams of 241 Coy taking the Lightweight division and Private Halley of 31 Special Forces Squadron the Junior Welterweight title.
Private Craig swooped the Welterweight division while Private Bennett of 241 Coy took the Middleweight category private Elcock of Coast Guard won the Light Heavyweight division title.
Private Adams of 4 Engineers Battalion took the coveted Heavyweight Category. The event Friday night brought the GDF novices boxing championships to an end. The competition began last Tuesday.
