Four heavily armed bandits yesterday afternoon robbed a Mahaicony businessman and his brother-in-law of a large amount of cash and jewellery, following which a police team pursued the criminals into the backdam.
Up to press time last night none of the bandits had been caught, and the victims of Good Faith, Mahaicony were counting their losses while fearing for their lives.
Speaking to Stabroek News Dubraj Latchman said that around 4 pm yesterday he and his brother-in-law Michael and his family were sitting in front of their shop (they live above the shop) when a man showed up and purchased a bottle of drink. Latchman said he sold the man the drink and he left. Shortly after, he and three others men arrived, armed with guns and cutlasses.
Latchman said one of the men accosted him and his wife, while the others subdued Michael and one of his sons. The bandits then led them into the shop, where they demanded cash and jewellery. Latchman said he could not estimate the amount of money the criminals grabbed, but he said it was a lot. The men also took a quantity of jewellery from him as well as from Michael.
After grabbing the loot the bandits fled down a dam at Letter T Village, Mahaicony. Police were called in and a large team of TSU ranks showed up, Latchman said. He told Stabroek News that the officers pursued the bandits down the dam, but they were unable to catch any of them.
