The Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) defeated Lusignan by a whopping 201 runs in the second semi-final of the Guyflag-sponsored, three-day, first-division cricket competition at the Lusignan Community Centre ground yesterday.
Lusignan began their second innings yesterday needing 319 to win and were bowled out ten overs after lunch. They never seemed like challenging the total and fell for a meagre 118.
Only Vishnu Ramjeet with 28 including five fours offered any resistance as seam bowler Henry 5-40 and off-spinner Ravi Sarwan 3-33 ripped through the batting order.
On the second day, a century from Vishal Singh helped GCC, who made 229 in their first innings, reach 244 all out in the second, leaving Lusignan who conceded a first innings deficit of 74 with a tall order.
Singh’s well crafted 107, scores of 63 and 64 from Waslim Haslim, Carlos Jadunauth’s 44 not out in the first innings, Henry’s five- wicket haul and the effective off-spinning trio of Cleon Belgrave, Ravi Sarwan and Ricardo Jadunauth, who picked up three wickets each in the first innings were the main, contributing factors to the lopsided victory.
