RHTY&SC launches anti-drugs pro-education campaign

The Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club recently launched its 2007 anti-drugs and pro-education campaign with assistance from the Guyana and Leeward Islands cricket teams.

Three hundred primary and secondary school students received school supplies worth $180,000 and a warm meal at the area H ground. The members of the regional teams delighted the school-children by handing out the gifts and meals.

The kids were enthralled to meet their heroes and receive gifts from them and the players signed autographs, posed for pictures and offered advice to their young fans.

West Indies vice-captain Ramnaresh Sarwan asked the kids to stay in school and keep far from drugs. He advised them that hard work, commitment and faith in God can achieve any goal. Leewards captain Sylvester Joseph in his remarks to the students noted that discipline is a tool that can open many doors and he called on them to show respect to their parents, elders and teachers.

He also urged them to say no to drugs and yes to education.

Club CEO Hilbert Foster challenged the students to heed the advice of their idols.

The RHTY&SC also expressed thanks to Food for the Poor for its contribution.
