A driver appeared in court on Monday on a robbery under arms charge and was remanded to prison.
William Alexander of 26 Critchlow Street, Tucville pleaded not guilty to the charge before Acting Chief Magistrate Cecil Sullivan and was refused bail.
It is alleged that on February 15 at Tucville, Alexander while armed with a gun robbed Keith Henry of a gold and diamond watch, gold and a cellular phone, all valued at $1.5M.
The court heard that Alexander was playing dominoes in the area on the night of the robbery. His lawyer, Mohamed Zafar said in a bail application that his client was engrossed in the game at the time the robbery is alleged to have taken place.
But the court prosecutor objected to bail being granted on the grounds that a gun was involved. She noted too that the police were unable to recover the weapon. The prosecutor said also that it is more than coincidental that Alexander was playing dominoes in the area on the night the robbery took place. Added to this, she said, the virtual complainant knows the defendant.
The matter continues on March 9.
