A priest was refused bail by Magistrate Chandra Sohan after he appeared at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court on Friday on a charge of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
Darryl Dorset, 41, of Number 50 Village, Corentyne allegedly had in his possession 2 kg, 928 grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking. According to reports, on February 16 at North Road, West New Amsterdam, police saw the defendant acting in a suspicious manner. They conducted a search and the items were reportedly found on his person. He pleaded not guilty to the offence and he has to return to court on March 23.
Meanwhile it is alleged that on February 11 Mohamed Azad Alrasheed, 46, a carpenter of Woodley Park Village, West Coast Berbice had in his possession four grams of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
The magistrate refused bail and transferred the matter to the Fort Wellington Magistrate’s Court for March 4.
