Frank Tucker was elected President of the Guyana Amateur Weightlifting Association (GAWA) at the bi-annual general meeting held at Olympic House, Church and Peter Rose Streets, Queenstown, on Monday.
A GAWA press release stated that Tucker will be replacing Frank Abdool who did not seek re-election as president, but he will be functioning in the office of first vice-president.
The new executives who will serve for 2007-09 are Franklyn Brisport-Luke (2nd vice-president), Deion Nurse (general secretary), Dane Henry (treasurer), Sean Cozier (assistant secretary/treasurer), David Taylor (organising secretary) and Brian Adams (publicity secretary).
Tucker in his acceptance speech thanked the members for electing him and pledged to improve the sport of weightlifting and to take it to a new height. However, Tucker noted that it would require the involvement of all members.
Secretary General of the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) Ivor O’ Brien served as the returning officer.
Meanwhile, General Secretary Deion Nurse was selected to participate at the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) referees’ and coaches’ symposium which is scheduled for March 1-4 in Rome, Italy.
