Amputee Yonette McDonald, 37, who was the lone survivor of an accident on Mandela Avenue that killed two others, two Fridays ago died at the Georgetown Hospital on Thursday.
The accident occurred around 10.30 pm at the corner of Homestretch and Mandela avenues, where the National Cultural Centre is situated. McDonald’s reputed husband Neil Overton, 44, of 36 John Street, Lodge and Ryan Mc Bean, 31, of 176 South Vryheid’s Lust, East Coast Demerara and North East La Penitence had both succumbed to their injuries on the night of the accident two Fridays ago just opposite the National Cultural Centre.
The woman’s relatives say they are waiting on an opportunity to speak with the doctors since they do not want to have a post mortem done. McDonald’s cousin Holly Rowland said the family was resigned to the fact that McDonald was in an accident, they were aware she was hit in the head, had a blood clot and was gradually declining in health.
Therefore even though the doctors would like to carry out a post mortem to make a determination on the cause of death the family is reluctant to go through with that process.
Meanwhile relatives of her reputed husband witnessed his post mortem and have agreed to meet McDonald’s family to make arrangements for the two to be buried together.
Mc Bean, who was riding a motorbike, sustained a broken neck as well as injuries to his head, while Overton sustained massive head injuries and several wounds about his body. It was believed at the time of the occurrence that Mc Donald had fractured her skull. She was in critical condition at the Georgetown Hospital’s High Dependency Unit since the accident.
Overton and his reputed wife Mc Donald, who is confined to a wheelchair, were making their way home when the motorcycle ridden by Guyana Post Office (GPO) employee Mc Bean collided with them. Mc Bean’s family held the belief that a car, which was at the East La Penitence Police Station, might have played a role in the accident.
Stabroek News was told that Overton was pushing the wheelchair when the motorbike hit him from behind. The bike then reportedly collided with Mc Donald causing her to hit the ground headfirst. The three victims were picked up and rushed to the hospital. Mc Bean was pronounced dead on arrival while Overton passed away while receiving treatment.
