The Cliff Anderson Sports Hall will be a hive of activity today when the National Sports Commission (NSC)/Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) Mashramani tournament continues with play in the Under-21 Open, the `C’ and `B’ Class Open events and the Open men and women’s singles.
The players took a day off yesterday to observe and in some cases participate in the Mashramani activities, but from this morning it will be back to business or that should be back to sport.
Tomorrow, the competition will continue with play in the Masters events from 11:00h.
The categories to be contested tomorrow are the 35 years and over; 40 years and over;45 years and over; 50 years and over and 55 years and over.
On Thursday evening the finals of the 18 years and under boys’ as well as the girl’s and boys’ junior doubles and girls’ mixed doubles categories were contested.
In the boys’ 18 years and under final Reshon Hadmon defeated 14-year-old Nigel Bryan 11-4, 11-8, 6-11, 11-8 (3-1).
Hadmon defeated Devon Richmond at 7-11, 11-9, 11-4, 11-8 (3-1) in the first semi-final while Bryan upset defending champion Joel Alleyne in an exciting five-set 13-11, 11-7, 11-7 and 11-4 (3-2).
Ambrose Thomas and Trenace Lowe defeated Michelle John and Natalie Cummings in the girls’ doubles final 11-5, 13-15, 11-5, and 11-2 while in the mixed doubles final, Lowe and Alleyne defeated John and Hadmon 11-9, 11-7 and 11-8.
The finals of the boys’ doubles will be contested between Darwin Walcott and Alleyne against Hadmon and Richmond.
In the semi-final matches Walcott and Alleyne defeated Warren Hackshaw and Elishaba Johnson 11-9, 11-8, 11-8 while Hadmon and Richmond beat Bryan and Ronaldo Bharat 9-11, 11-8, 10-12, 11-6 and 11-7.
Third place will be contested between Hackshaw and Johnson against Bryan and Bharat.
The girls’ 18 years and under final will pit Lowe against John while Ambrose Thomas will face Tiffany Blair for the third position.
