Secretary-General of the International Criminal Organisation (Interpol), Ronald Noble says he is pleased with Guyana’s security arrangements for the hosting of Cricket World Cup (CWC).
Noble who is on a five-country tour to ensure that Interpol’s border control network is in place and functioning soundly in all CWC host countries wrapped up a three-day visit to Guyana yesterday.
In a statement issued at a press conference yesterday Noble said he and Acting Police Commissioner, Henry Greene met on Sunday to review Interpol’s state-of-the art police communications system (1-24/7) installed at Guyana’s Interpol National Central Bureau and at the Cheddi Jagan Airport, Timehri.
According to Noble, after meeting Interpol and Guyana police staff assigned to CWC security, Noble complimented Greene on the professionalism of his staff and on the 24-hour, seven-days-a-week service that Guyana’s Interpol office will be providing to all CWC host countries in order to provide a rapid response to any inquiry during the event.
Greene, according to Noble, has also committed to sending a police and immigration officer to a special training course that will be offered at the end of this month in Port of Spain, Trinidad. “I have assured our governmental leadership, citizens and CWC spectators that Guyana will be a secure and safe environment for the CWC,” Greene was quoted as saying in the press statement. He added that the fine men and women in the law enforcement are delivering on that promise. Noble said that he was pleased by what he has seen during his visit this week.
