East Bank romped to a comfortable 58-run victory over East Coast in the Diamond Fire and General Insurance inter-association limited overs cricket competition at the Lusignan Community Centre ground yesterday.
East Bank batting first was dismissed for 149 in 39 overs. Roy Karran stroked seven fours top-scoring with 51 while Azeem Azeez chipped in with 28. Sunil Sarjoo contributed 21.
Off-spinner Deodat Singh grabbed 6-18 from six overs while Javed Campbell supported with 3-11.
The East Coast side, in reply, was routed for a paltry 91 in 31.5 overs.
Vishal Mohabir with 20 was the leading scorer.
Asif Ishak grabbed 4-11 from 5.5 overs while Karran made it a solid all-round performance with 2-13 from seven overs.
At the Police Sports complex ground, Eve Leary, the match between Georgetown and West Demerara was called off.
Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) public relations officer Robert `Pacer’ Adonis told Stabroek Sport that chairman of the DCB’s competitions committee Krisenchand Mangal was informed Monday night by President of the Demerara Umpires and Scorers Association Daveteerth Anandjit that he was pulling the umpires out of the game as a result of a pay dispute.
According to Adonis all matches in the competition will be suspended until the matter between the DCB and the Umpires and Scorers Association is resolved.
