A young man who allegedly had large amounts of cocaine, cannabis and amphetamines in his home was yesterday refused bail by Acting Chief Magistrate Cecil Sullivan at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
Damion Ross, age 22, of 1 Princes Street, Charlestown and also of Cayenne, French Guiana pleaded not guilty to three charges of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
It is alleged that on February 26 at Princes Street, Charlestown, Ross had 522 grammes of cannabis, 170 amphetamine tablets which weighed 45 grammes and 158 grammes of cocaine for trafficking. According to the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU), acting on information received the ranks went to Ross’s home and searched his bedroom. On the top of a wardrobe they reportedly found the tablets in a plastic bag, two plastic bags containing cannabis and a plastic container with crack cocaine. They also found one hundred and eighty $1,000 counterfeit notes, Guyana currency. The notes were handed over to the police who are conducting further investigations.
Appearing for Ross was attorney-at-law Glen Hanoman who requested an early trial date for his client.
CANU prosecutor Oswald Massiah told the court that there is another charge pending for Ross concerning the currency but it would be brought by the police.
Ross’s case was transferred to Court Three for March 13.
