Dear Editor,
Guyanese are extending a very hearty welcome to the many high level dignitaries including presidents, vice presidents, ministers and their officials and staff of nineteen countries who will be attending the Rio Summit in Guyana from February 28 to March 3.
We have the signal honour of being the first Caricom country to host such a summit and we have extended all our efforts towards making this summit not only a memorable experience for our esteemed guests but also to have very important issues addressed and taken to the next level.
The Rio Group was established in Rio de Janeiro in 1986 to drive the process of Latin American co-ordination and Guyana became Caricom’s representative since 1998.
The group has grown from about eight countries at its inception to about nineteen countries, which shows that the original idea has gained strength and support.
That we are the hosts is an honour to President Jagdeo, Prime Minister Sam Hinds, the Government and the entire people of our country and marks another important milestone in our history.
Yours faithfully,
Jason Hinds
