Justice Yonette Cummings-Edwards has begun hearing the case of a South Ruimveldt man who is accused of killing a SIMAP employee three years ago.
Shawn Smith was indicted on the capital offence for the January 12, 2004 murder of Lennox Stuart at Duncan Street, Campbellville. Stuart was found in his home with his throat slit.
The prosecution led by state counsel Leron Daly has since called two witnesses to the stand. One was the brother of the deceased, who gave evidence about certain items belonging to his brother that he was asked to identify; the other was a policeman.
Smith is being represented by Legal Aid attorneys, Gary Best and Nigel Hawke. The trial is continuing.
