Regional Executive Officer (REO) of Region Ten Henry Rodney says allegations levelled against him and the administration by Regional Chairman Mortimer Mingo are a personal vendetta to get him removed from the region as other attempts by the chairman to do so have failed.
Admitting that there are problems in the region, Rodney said most were inherited by him when he took office less than three years ago and he has been working on them. He alleged that Mingo has been working to ensure that some of the plans he put in place fail. He also said that he is an administrator and while he has responsibility for the entire region there are departmental heads who must be held accountable for areas under their remit.
Rodney was responding to a letter published in this newspaper on March 2, in which Mingo made several allegations, mainly about the education sector of the region. He spoke among other things about schools being in need of repairs and no work being done; no teachers at one particular school; teachers’ quarters built in the Berbice River and not occupied and a school being built on swampy land even though advice was given for this not to be done.
“These are just some of the administrational malaises that this council has been grappling with, and which we strongly feel do not contribute to the development and welfare of Region Ten,” Mingo said after listing the problems faced in the region. He said that as a result the council has decided to take to the streets, “
