When I read Andaiye’s perceptive letter captioned “In defence of the vendors outside the Stabroek market, especially the grass roots women; in defence of justice” (07.03.02) I was reminded of the observation made by Sophie Bessis in her book ” Western Supremacy: the triumph of an idea?” that “The most remarkable of the privileges of power is the freedom to load the dice against one’s prospective partners” and pondered the question today vendors, tomorrow whom?
