A man who allegedly had cannabis in his home was yesterday refused bail by Acting Chief Magistrate Cecil Sullivan at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
Carol Halley, 64, of Mandela Avenue and Durban Street pleaded not guilty to possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
It is alleged that on March 1 at Georgetown he had in his possession 870 grammes of cannabis for trafficking.
Attorney-at-law Mohamed Zafar told the court that his client is well known to the police and the area where the alleged drugs were found was close to a building where there is mesh and his client has a shop next to it. He added that his client has a three-year-old daughter and that was a reason for him to be granted bail.
Police prosecutor Maxine Graham asked that bail be refused and stated that the narcotics was found on a shelf in Halley’s home. She added that she knew nothing about the adjoining building or a mesh.
Halley’s case was transferred to Court Three for March 14.
