A new Cabinet sub-committee has been set up to look at the enhancement of the Guyana Fire Service.
According to the Government Information Agency (GINA), President Bharrat Jagdeo met Minister of Home Affairs Clement Rohee, Fire Chief Lawrence David and two other senior officers of the service at the Office of the President. “It was a very useful and productive discussion,” Rohee said after the meeting, while explaining that the committee would follow up on the decisions and guidance given by the President to produce recommendations. He added that those recommendations would be discussed at Cabinet before implementation.
David said the areas discussed included amending the legislation under which the Fire Service is governed, the procurement of appliances and equipment, training and expansion of the Service.
During a fire last week, firemen were forced to use hoses riddled with holes.
