Even as an investigative committee is looking into several issues affecting the Wisburg Secondary School, there has been another violent incident there.
According to information reaching Stabroek News on Tuesday, a form one student delivered a severe blow to another student causing the child to be hospitalized. Reports said the male victim, also of form one, had told his female assailant something which was not taken lightly.
The assailant then reportedly took hold of the seat of a wooden, three-seater bench and dealt the boy one blow to his head. He fell to the ground unconscious and had to be rushed to the Linden Hospital Complex.
This newspaper understands that the boy was in and out of consciousness for as long as ten minutes. When Stabroek News visited the hospital, the child was alert and was being wheeled to the x-ray department for further investigation. His eyes, nose and lips were swollen.
The boy’s mother said the assailant’s parents had visited her child at the hospital, but she was unable to meet with them since she had already left. The police were immediately summoned following the incident.
Meanwhile, the investigative committee has since conducted several meetings with individuals, class teachers, parents and community members and is preparing to speak with students of the Wisburg Secondary School before preparing its report for submission to the relevant authorities.
This committee was set up by Regional Chairman Mortimer Mingo after he read the initial report in this newspaper.
