Royston Crandon will receive the Cricketer of the Year award when Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTYSC) hosts its annual award ceremony on Sunday at the J. C. Chandisingh Secondary School from 11:30am.
Crandon, who made his senior debut for Guyana earlier this year was named Cricketer of the Year for the period March 2006 to 2007. A RHTYSC press release stated that Crandon would receive $350,000 in prizes including a ticket to the USA, a bicycle, electronic equipment, gold jewellery, designer clothes, and footwear, among other things.
Trophies and prizes worth $1.5 million would be distributed to star players. Among those to be honoured are the Disciplined Player of the Year, the Most Committed Member and the much-coveted Cricketer of the Year.
Some 335 donors will be honoured along with 27 individuals who would be inducted as honorary members. RHTYSC will be distributing educational materials and sport gear to schools and clubs in Berbice.
Meanwhile, Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) president Bish Panday who is scheduled to be guest speaker at the ceremony is expected to focus on “the importance of discipline and education for youths in today’s modern world”. Representatives of the club’s nine official sponsors will also be present at the ceremony.
