Charles `Kassa’ Hope copped first place when the Critchlow Labour College held its Mashramani table tennis teachers’ knockout tournament last Thursday while another Hope, Kajel won the students’ category.
The tournament was coordinated by the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) and was held at the college.
In the first round of the students’ play-off Kajel Hope defeated Darwain George 11-2, 11-7, 11-5 while Ossie Rudder defeated Darwin Welch 11-7, 8-11, 8-11, 11-9 and 13-11.
Terry Vieira defeated Shem Ross 11-5, 11-6 and 13-11 while Zuberi Richards defeated Joel Bhangwandin 11-6, 11-6, 11-3.
Kajel Hope defeated Vieira in the final 12-10, 11-5 and 12-10. In the third place play-off Richards defeated Rudder 11-4, 11-1 and 11-1. In the lecturers’ play-off Charles Hope defeated Mark Evans 11-6, 11-3, 11-3 to take first place while Ignatius Phillips and Randolph Scott battled for third and fourth place.
Scott defeated Phillips 11-9, 11-3, 11-7 to take third places.
Meanwhile, GTTA coach Linden Johnson told Stabroek Sport that the distribution of prizes to the winners would take place at the school’s upcoming graduation and prize-giving ceremony.
