Dear Editor,
Now that International Women’s Day has come and gone, I now submit my two bits.
Women in general are now more liberated than 40 years ago, back then most women were home makers, but today we see women in every field of work. Career women have to work twice as hard in the competitive world we live in to prove to the men that they can do the same jobs. Career women who have families and juggle them both are geniuses. Then there are other women like nurses, teachers, vendors, domestics, office and factory workers etc., and the single mothers who work even harder to give their children a better life, as they realise that education is the key to success. There are mothers who keep their families together. Women are versatile in the home switching from cook to nurse, maid, gardener or other roles as the situation arises and can handle crises better than men.
Hats off to all the wonderful women who work voluntarily, and quietly behind the scenes doing what they love to do. As the old saying goes `Behind every successful man there is a woman’.
Yours faithfully,
Doreen Jeetlall
