A Bajan invasion is expected in Guyana early April but it will have little to do with Cricket World Cup. Mc Neal Enterprise, I Care Promotions and Layne Productions have added Barbadian boxers Christopher `Shaka’ Henry and Curtis Murray to their card that will be held here next month.
The junior middleweight Henry will clash with Guyanese Keith `Crusher’ Thomas in a 10-round main supporting bout while heavyweight Murray will meet Mitchell Rogers in an eight rounder.
Murray and Henry are not the only overseas fighters to be named on the card as USA based Guyanese Elton `The Real Coolie Bully’ Dharry has also been included.
The main bout will see former World Boxing Association welterweight champion Andrew `Six Head’ Lewis mixing it up with national junior welterweight champion `Deadly’ Denny Dalton in the third fight of a three year war.
The upcoming fight is being dubbed “The Conclusion”. Dalton and Lewis first met in October 2005 in the “Doomsday Battle” which was declared a technical draw after a clash of heads left Lewis with a cut over his eye.
In the return titled “Unfinished Business” held at the National Park last April Lewis survived a knock down in the fourth round, and was leading on points when he suddenly quit in the seventh to hand the title to Dalton.
Other fights on the card include undefeated junior middleweight Lennox `2Sharp’ Allen versus Winston Pompey in an eight rounder and Veronica Blackman challenging Sharon `Stone’ Ward in a six-round light heavyweight encounter.
Meanwhile, a spokesman for the joint venture told Stabroek News that international collaboration between promoters augurs well for boxing here. “Such things will now make it possible for us to bring world title fights to these shores.
McNeal Enterprise and I Care Promotions are from Guyana but Layne Productions is a Barbadian company headed by Samuel Layne, manager of Leon Moore.
