Fourteen-year-old Christopher Holder persisted against other determined wheelers and in a late surge he again captured the winner’s trophy in the feature event at the R&R International 11-race cycle meet yesterday.
“I didn’t expect to win because I was feeling a lot of pressure, but coming down to the final lap I felt a lot better,” Holder told Stabroek Sport. This is Holder’s second consecutive win for the Schoolboys and Novices feature race at the National Park.
Just by a wheel Holder surged to victory over Alonzo Greaves and five other competitors.
The race started with 15 cyclists leaving six to finish the final 21 laps. In third place was Albert Philander while Shane Boodram got fourth and in fifth and sixth positions were John Charles and Daniel Ramcharran respectively.
Coach Hassan Mohamed in his presentation speech congratulated Holder on his success and advised him to make a name for himself and not to allow his two wins to get to his head. He added that the races were originally scheduled for February but was postponed due to Mashramani celebrations.
Mohamed said this is the 16th year that R&R International has been sponsoring Park races.
Meanwhile, in the veteran under 45 years cycle race Kennard Lovell and Shameer Baksh reigned first and second respectively. In the veteran over 45 years Virgil Jones was first and Anthony Fariah second.
In the earlier juvenile 10-laps race Holder copped first spot while in second and third were Daniel Ranchurjee and Jason Da Silva respectively.
In the upright cycle race Dennis Charles was first, Shawn Frank second and Johnatan Fagundes third.
Jude Lewis, son of former cyclist John Lewis, won the BMX boys 6-9 years race while in second and third were Rawle Mc Lean and Zayd Baksh.

In the BMX boys 12-14 years Fagundes got first while in second and third were Asif Shaw and Jamal Heywood respectively.
Crystal Blackman took first place in the girls BMX 6-12 years and Ashley Anthone took second.
