Police in Mahaica are investigating the murder of a farmer who was shot and then set afire on Thursday afternoon allegedly by a man with whom he had a land dispute.
Police in a release said that the cash crop farmer, Lionel Solomon also called ‘Vibert’, 45, of Belmont, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara, was shot by a male at Gauge Landing, Maduni Island, Mahaica River.
The release said that Solomon and the man had an ongoing dispute over a plot of land within the said area and during a fracas the man shot him.
Police visited the scene and found the smouldering remains of Solomon and an investigation has been launched. The release did not say if anyone was arrested.
