Dear Editor,
As an Alumni and former Board Member of Anna Regina Secondary School I am appalled to learn that the school board is non-functioning. Is the Old Students Association helping? There is money in the Bank or so I hope.
Ever since I was on the Board there was a dictate that came from the Regional Head of Government. The same level of interference came to the Essequibo Chamber of Commerce and Industry when I was President.
There cannot be autonomy and professionalism when government personnel try to influence an institution that was supposed to be independent of the structure of Government.
What did the Board accomplish in the last five years? Did they investigate the hundreds of thousands of dollars missing from the school? Who took the money and where is the person who took the money? Why were charges never pressed?
The Board is nothing but a political bandwagon. The members have no guts to confront the external influences, instead they conform to the party political meandering. Is there anyone left who has the guts to do what is right for the institution?
Where are all my other Alumni? Let’s save our Alma Mater from those people? Let’s revert to the motto “Character and Efficiency”. Do these words matter anymore?
Yours faithfully,
Steve Hemraj
