Georgetown and Upper Demerara trounced their opponents on Sunday to set up a much-anticipated clash for supremacy in the final of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Guyflag inter-association football tournament.
In the semi-final round of the competition at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground, Georgetown inflicted a 5-1 beating on East Coast Demerara while Upper Demerara thrashed Berbice 9-2.
National midfielder Gregory’Jackie Chan’ Richardson scored a hat- trick to help lead Georgetown to victory. Richardson scored in the 13th, 59th and 65th minutes for the capital city to bring his tally to seven goals in the championships.
Midfielder Dirk Archer scored the first goal for Georgetown in the 10th minute with Omali Nassy putting the icing on the cake in the 82nd minute.
East Coast’s lone goal came in the 24th minute off the boot of Winston Pompey.
Rawle Gittens also scored a hat-trick while Ezera Green and the tournament’s leading goal scorer Collie ‘Hitman’ Hercules scored doubles to set up a title defence for Upper Demerara in the 2007 instalment of the tournament.
The first goal was a defence error in the 2lst minute with Gittens opening his account three minutes later. Gittens completed his hat-trick in the 55th and 59th minutes of the encounter.
Hercules scored in the 35th and 66th minutes to register a total of ten goals so far while Green disturbed the net in the 77th and 80th minutes respectively. Kevin Beaton was on target in the 82nd minute to complete the goal-shooting practice for the Linden team.
Colin Bowry and Adrian Adams were the goal scorers for the Ancient County in the 71st and 84th minutes respectively. The likely venue for the third-place match between Berbice and East Coast Demerara is the Rose Hall Community Centre ground in Canje.
The date for the third-place game as well as the venue and date for the final will be announced this week by the GFF.
