A man who allegedly attempted to set his reputed wife on fire after she wanted to end their relationship was yesterday refused bail by Acting Chief Magistrate Cecil Sullivan.
Lester Burtrum, 29, of River View, Ruimveldt was not required to plead to the attempted murder charge at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

According to reports the woman told Burtrum that she was no longer interested in him. He then poured kerosene on her body and was in the process of setting her alight when his brother came into the home and stopped him. The matter was then reported to the police.
