Second-half goals from Sherwin Bailey and Orin Squires within 13 minutes piloted Kitty `A’ to a 2-0 win against their counterparts from Sophia when the Camptown Football Club/Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company’s Super 6 inter-block tournament continued on Wednesday at the Campbellville Community Centre ground.
After a goal-less first session which saw both teams wasting scoring opportunities, the eventual winners, with a combination of constructive passes and more ball possession, assumed their dominance over the Sophia team and were rewarded with their first goal in the 49th minute as Bailey found his target.
With a slim 1-0 lead, the Kitty squad subsequently shifted gears, resorting to an all out attack which paid dividends, as an unmarked Squires was able to convert from close up eight minutes before regulation time.
Kitty `A’ upon completion of their first-round matches have three points from two matches, from one win and one loss.
They have so far scored five goals in the competition, while conceding four for a goal difference of plus one which places them in the second spot behind leaders Campbellville `B’, who won their only match to date and has a similar amount of points.
Sophia `A’ without a point after one match is in the cellar.
Meanwhile, Super 6 action will continue tomorrow at the same venue where Kitty `B’ faces Campbellville `A’ in the lone encounter of a Group two fixture.
DeSinco Trading has contributed the balls for the tournament which has at stake over $120,000 along with trophies and individual prizes.
