Georgetown easily defeated East Coast by 130 runs in the second round of the Diamond Fire and General Insurance inter-county under-19 limited overs cricket competition at the Diamond Community Centre ground yesterday.
Georgetown scored 215-8 in 44 overs then dismissed East Coast for 85 in 33.5 overs. The match was reduced to 44 overs-per-side because of late preparation of the pitch.
Vishal Singh, 44, Stephen Jacobs, 39, Joseph Perry 23 and Chris Patadin 23 were the principal scorers for Georgetown.
Delon Hamilton picked up 4-36 bowling for East Coast who, in reply, fell for 85.
Apart from Earl Henry’s 29 no other batsman reached double figures.
Medium pacer Chidanand Shivram with 3-9 and leg-spinner Travis Blyden 3-11 combined to rout the East Coast side.
At Wales, West Demerara beat East Bank by five wickets. East Bank batted first and were dismissed for 132 in 36.4 overs.
West Demerara then knocked off the runs in 27.3 overs losing five wickets.
East Bank failed to establish partnerships, the only one of any significance was 34 for the sixth wicket between top scorer Totaram Bishun 22 and Carl Rambarose.
Kellon Merchant was the pick of the West Demerara bowlers picking up 4-9, while Vishnu Sew and Rohan Harrinarine each grabbed two wickets for 12 and seven runs respectively.
The West Demerara batsmen fashioned a methodical run chase. Openers Mahendra Pertabji and Balbida Persaud put on 56 with Persaud’s contribution being 37.
Mohammed Mohaydeen then joined Pertabji and they carried West Demerara to lunch at 94-1.
The pair added 23 after the interval combining for a 67-run second wicket partnership that put West Demerara well on the road to victory.
Pertabji scored top-scored with a 56-ball 55 laced with four boundaries and two sixes.
Bishun was easily the pick of the East Bank bowlers picking up 3-17 while Imtiaz Ishmael grabbed 2-37 in a losing effort for East Bank.
