Dear Editor,
I wish to thank Mr Carew for his response captioned “The NIS is always striving for improvement” (07.03.12) with regard to a letter I wrote on the NIS and its activities that are not people friendly.
It is good to know that Hema Persaud’s complaints are being addressed. In Guyana matters being addressed can take several months and years.
I still stand by what I wrote. I know of several people being given the royal runaround who have given up in frustration. The NIS is yet to prove to the contributors that its assets are managed professionally. I know of NIS providing money for spectacles and medical bills. However the NIS owes much more to the poor. It has not shown any initiative in investing wisely so that its commitments can be met.
Yours faithfully,
Vijay Singh
