Two men on a motorcycle robbed a Regent Street store on Friday and escaped with an undisclosed sum of money.
Police reports say that the men who were armed with guns went into 2J’s Store on Regent Street and held up the cashier, Allison Brewster. One of the men stood guard, while the other took the money from Brewster at gunpoint. They then fled on a motorcycle.
The men reportedly frequented the store prior to the robbery. The matter is being investigated.
Meanwhile three men armed with guns robbed Buddy’s Hotel on Brickdam, also on Friday while pretending to be customers.
Police say the men walked into the hotel and said they were there to do business before robbing Company Secretary, Meena Mookram of $40,000, a Taurus .32 pistol and 22 rounds of matching ammunition. Security guard Prince Edwards was relieved of a .32 Taurus pistol and 11 rounds of ammunition.
Edwards put up a fight and was shot in the left thigh as a result. The men then fled the hotel. Edwards was treated at the Georgetown Public Hospital and sent away.
Between Thursday and Friday the police were investigating some four robberies that occurred in and around the city and the force in a release expressed concern while lamenting that no proper security measures were implemented to protect life and property in several instances.
The force said it will continue with diligence to maintain security but called on the public to cooperate in providing vital answers and reporting incidents without delay.
