ndrew ‘Six Heads’ Lewis and Denny ‘Deadly’ Dalton have met two times before with inconclusive results on both occasions; its only fair that the two top boxers be given the opportunity to settle the score between them once and for all.
Lewis met Dalton in October of 2005 in a bout dubbed “Doomsday Battle” and again in April of 2006 in what turned out to be a real “Unfinished Business” as the card of the two top local boxers was labelled by the promoters.
A head butt sustained by Lewis stopped “Doomsday Battle” in 2005 while Lewis quit 37 seconds into round seven in “Unfinished Business” in 2006, leaving fans to guess the outcome of both meetings.
Hopefully, when the two fighters meet in the main event on a card set for a date (to be announced) in the first two weeks of April, a result will be certain and fans will know for sure who is the top boxer in Guyana.
One of the most popular voices of local boxing, Herman Harris – father of former World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Light Welterweight champion, Vivian Harris has already cast his lot on Dalton ahead of the fight. t shows clearly that Dalton has the upper – hand over Six Head. He is stronger than Six Head,” Harris said adding that hopefully when the two met again Dalton could prove a well – known fact: that he is better than Lewis.
Dalton, a huge crowd favourite in the 2005 fight, met with a mixed crowd response at the National Park last year. Maybe fans were disappointed that he did not put away ‘Six’ in their first meeting.
Lewis emerged with a fanciful and energetic hip – hop beat in 2005 and again last year forcing the crowd to get involved in some way even if it was against their will to support Guyana’s first world champion.
Lewis, a one time World Boxing Association (WBA) Welterweight champion will have no excuse in his third and perhaps final attempt to re – emerge on the international stage after losing via a fifth round TKO to Ricardo ‘The Matador’ Mayorga in 2002.
Harris is of the view that the incompletion of the past two fights between Dalton and Lewis has affected the growth of Dalton internationally. He hopes this time Dalton will get the ‘break’ he needs.
“In my view it’s a pity that Dalton has not advanced further after beating ‘Six Heads’ twice,” Harris said, “Denny should now be looking at the international scene, when you fight somebody you got to move on”.
When asked why he gives the edge to Dalton in the clash, Harris said that it was obvious that Lewis had lost his passion for the sport while Dalton seemed to be ahead of Lewis psychologically.
“I don’t think that Six Head is focussed or hungry as before and this is where I have to give Dalton the edge, in the final analysis Dalton will come out victorious,” one of the stalwarts in local boxing said.
Harris is only one of many who feel Dalton will win the fight in April. Lewis has his own following and those that believe he is much more experienced and quicker than Dalton. Next month the many questions surrounding these two fighters will be answered.
