The Georgetown Cricket Club inflicted a nine-wicket trouncing of home team Lusignan on Saturday as the Neal Massy 40-over first division cricket began.
Lusignan batted first and were dismissed for 161 with Surujpaul Deosaran top-scoring with 49. Vishnu Ramjeet chipped in with 40 while Narvan Singh contributed 25.
GCC, in reply, knocked off the required runs in the 38th over losing only one wicket. Ricardo Jadunauth was the leading scorer with 61 while Waslim Haslim scored 46 and Vishal Singh 44.
Also on Saturday Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) defeated the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) by two wickets at the DCC ground in Queenstown.
The match was delayed due to early morning rain and reduced to 24 overs-per-side.
The hosts won the toss and inserted GNIC who scored 167-8 in 24 overs. National medium-pacer Rayon Griffith top scored with 60 while West Indies selector Clyde Butts struck three sixes in 35.
Dennis Squires picked up 3-45 bowling for DCC who, in reply, were bowled out for 161 in 23.5 overs. Pacer Trevon Garraway top-scored with 35, Squires chipped in with 30, and Ron Ramnauth contributed 22.
The ageless warrior Butts was the pick of the GNIC bowlers picking up 3-14 from 4.5 overs while Griffith grabbed 2-26.
On Sunday, Everest handed DCC their second loss of the weekend beating the Queenstown side by 11 runs at the Police Sports Complex ground,
Everest batted first and scored 135 in 34 overs. Chris Patadin top-scored with 25. Surendra Heralall chipped in with 23.
Chris Barnwell, Utom Munroe, Kester Harcourt, and Dennis Squires grabbed two wickets each bowling for DCC who in reply were bowled out for124.
Dwayne Perriera was their leading scorer with 28 while Trevon Garraway chipped with 20.
Leon Scott picked up 3-31, Rakesh Goberdan took 2-14, and David Harper grabbed 2-21 bowling for the victors.
At the Transport and Harbours Department Sports Club the Gandhi Youth Organization (GYO) defeated the hosts by a 103 run margin.
GYO batted first and scored 196-6 in 40 overs Devon Ramnauth topscoring with 54. Azamudeen Khan chipped in with 37 and Anthony Ifill contributed 34.
Kevin Ross picked up 3-16, M Punawassie 3-39 and Haresh Persaud 2-43 bowling for T&HD who, in reply, were skittled out for 93. Persaud top scored with 22 while Punawasie chipped in with 21.
Ken Alphonso, Khan, Vaden Walker and Derick Couling grabbed two wickets each for the victors.
At Lusignan the hosts beat Malteenoes Sports Club by four wickets. The visitors batted first and scored 190 in 39.2 overs. Antonnel Atwell was the leading scorer with 34, Delroy Jacobs chipped in with 33 and Shemroy Barrington and Dion Ferrier each contributed 22.
Surujpaul Deosaran picked up 3-36, Emran Khan 2-30, and Narvan Singh grabbed 2-41 bowling for Lusignan who replied by knocking the runs off in 38.5 overs losing six wickets
Krishna Deosaran top scored with 73 no out laced with six fours and two sixes while Surujpaul Deosaran chipped in with 40.
