A man who admitted to robbing another man and then escaping from the police because he wanted to go to Mashramani was on Monday sentenced to two years in prison by Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
Wayne Rogers, 30, of 3416 Stevedore Housing Scheme pleaded guilty to robbery with violence and escaping from lawful custody.
It is alleged that on February 20 at Georgetown he robbed Solomon Baldeo of $10,000 and some documents. On February 22 while being in lawful custody of Detective Constable 18256 he escaped.
Rogers told the court, “I found that Republic Day was important to me which is why I escaped.” He also admitted to being a drug addict.
The magistrate sentenced Rogers to two years in prison on each charge but the sentences will run concurrently.
