Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle yesterday remanded a taxi driver to prison when he yesterday appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court to answer to the charges of carnal knowledge of a 15-year-old girl.
According to the facts of the case, Ray Azore, 25, of 23 East Ruimveldt Housing Scheme, allegedly had carnal knowledge of a girl under the age of 16, on Wednesday in Georgetown. Azore was not required to plead to the charge.
Azore’s attorney Donald Trotman in his application for bail, told the court that his client and the teenager were friends and that they would sometimes go out together. He said the two went on an outing just a few days before the alleged incident so it came as a complete surprise to Azore that he was being charged.
Trotman told the court that Azore was known as a well-behaved person in his community.
Police Prosecutor Desiree Fowler asked that bail be refused based on the type and prevalence of the offence in the society. She added that the virtual complainant is only 15-years-old and is not of an age to give consent.
Azore was ordered to appear at Court 3 on April 16.
