Simpli Royal has landed the franchise for the Miss Bartica Regatta pageant, billed for Bartica on April 7 and the head of that company promises something to remember.
Simpli Royal head Pamela Dillon has her hands full as she is also coordinating the Miss Guyana Universe pageant (see other story on page 4C)
As to how she became the franchise holder for the pageant, Dillon explained that it was to have gone to Mc Neal Enterprises and she would have coordinated it anyway. However, while at a meeting in Bartica with the Regatta Committee, she learned that there were some problems with Mc Neal Enterprises. Never one to miss an opportunity, Dillon, whose name is synonymous with excellent pageantry, purchased the franchise for this year. However, once all goes well, she may consider doing it again next year.
The delegates are drawn from all around the country since they do not necessarily have to be Barticians to enter. The 11 contestants will compete in talent and swim wear segments and must know something about Bartica as questions about the town would be posed to them. The launching and sashing ceremony would be held on March 25 in Bartica and according to Dillon the business community in that town ahs been very supportive. The delegates would be part of a motorcade prior to the pageant and would also assist the Golden Girls, a group of older women who cook and feed children everyday. They would also give gifts and Easter items to the children.
The queen will take home $100,000 in cash and jewellery and the first runner-up $75,000. The winner will also be expected to do some community work in Bartica. The contestants are; Natoya Benjamin, Latoya Adams, Besney Fredricks, Ruchelle Annibourne, Christa Simmons, Carlita Williams, Malika Ramsey, Onece Roache, Genesta David, Shannon Nurse and Jenelle Lewis.
