Armed bandits operating at Rosignol Stelling early yesterday morning robbed three medical students of US$500 and other articles and later evaded a police chase in the busy market area at Rosignol.
The students are attending the Green Heart Medical University at Tain, Corentyne.
Police said in a statement that around 3 am yesterday four men armed with guns robbed the three medical students of cash and articles at the Rosignol Stelling.
Investigations revealed that six students had returned to Guyana and were on their way to the Green Heart Medical University at Tain, Corentyne via minibus when the bandits pounced on them. The bus was parked waiting to cross with the first ferry when the bandits struck. They then escaped in a waiting motorcar.
Police said that following the robbery members of the public raised an alarm and notified the police, but the robbers sped away. Police responded quickly and attempted to block the path of the car, which evaded them. The ranks gave chase and set up several road blocks to no avail. However, around 11 am the bandits’ getaway car, a white AT 192 Carina, with licence number PHH 4870 was found abandoned at Gloria Street, Bath Settlement.
Police are currently searching for the four men who escaped after the robbery.
