According to a police statement yesterday, investigations have disclosed that King had a relationship with the suspect. They had an altercation during which she expressed a desire to end the relationship following which she was shot, the police statement said.

King was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital and admitted to the High Dependency Unit following emergency surgery on Friday evening.
Stabroek News was told that the assailant is of questionable character. He reportedly visited King at her home around 8 pm Friday last and got upset after she spurned his advances. He reacted by pulling a gun and threatened to use it.
Speaking with Stabroek News from her hospital bed, King said she had nothing serious with the young man but he, “had it bad for me.” She said he constantly visited even after she told him that she was no longer interested. On the night she was shot, King said, she was sitting in front of her home when he turned up. She said they spoke briefly during which time she told him that there was nothing between them and no chance of anything happening. “I ask he to leave ’cause we ain’t got nothing going and he got another girl too, but he wasn’t taking that. He held onto me and pull a gun and I didn’t want to scream ’cause I ain’t know if he would shoot any of my family who went inside,” the teenager said.
The girl said she tried to remain calm and hoped that the love he claimed to have for her would save her. He released her but the gun was still visible so she took a seat a few inches away, all the while keeping her eyes on the front door.
King said she was waiting for an opportunity to make a dash for the door and was attempting to do so when she was shot in the abdomen. After shooting her the boy fled and has not been seen since.
