Dear Editor,
I thank you for the opportunity to respond to the letter captioned “The state media have not done enough to promote the preparation for Cricket World cup” (07.03.28) by Alicia Gonsalves. I will be very brief.
It is obvious that Ms Gonsalves has not been watching NCN TV or listening to the radio enough or simply does not understand how and when promotion is done. Sustained promotion of World Cup Cricket began more than six months ago and this was intensified as the event drew closer.
Since August of last year, the LOC was given one hour per week on television in addition to regular slots on radio specifically for this purpose. The newscasts, morning programmes on both radio and television, Homestretch Magazine and discussion programmes also focused heavily on preparations, progress and promoting the event. It continues until today.
I can only conclude that her comments are unfair and mischievous. Ms Gonsalves, if she is brave and willing enough, is welcome to give me a call to discuss how she can help. Also for her information, the head of GINA cannot `deal condignly’ with anyone at NCN.
Yours faithfully,
Martin Goolsarran
