The Rotaract Clubs of Guyana have launched a national an essay competition “to provide a forum for young people to express their concerns about crime in our country.”
According to a press release the clubs on Thursday launched the competition for regions Two, Three, Four, Five Six and Ten. The primary school entrants were given the topic ‘Describe the role of family members (mother, father, brother, sister and others) in the prevention of crime in our society.’ For secondary school students the topic is ‘Discuss the positive and negative effects of corporal punishment in the school environment and its impact on youth development of our country’ and in the open category; for persons age 18-30, the topic is ‘To what extent do technological advances influence crime in Guyana. And how can these technologies be used to benefit the law enforcement agencies and youth organisations.’
The clubs said the prizes up for grabs are one bicycle, a trip to the Arrowpoint Resort and a laptop computer respectively. The deadline for submissions is April 30.
