Dear Editor,
Recently, there was an appeal sent out by City Hall with the slogan “Respect for the dead” asking relatives to co-operate in painting up the cemetery.
In taking up the challenge I visited the ground. Friday 23rd was supposed to be the deadline for the exercise so I expected to see a hub of activities, which was not evident.
As the only person around I decided to do my part only to find there was not access between the road and the tombs. I stood at a loss contemplating my next move, when a young man came along who was very helpful. He found an eight inch plank but it was short in length to stretch across the dividing water way. The alternative was a narrow piece of board that one could only walk sideways and cautiously too, so he took my hand and helped me across.
I just wonder for a brief moment how serious the organizers at City Hall really were.
I feel they should be careful in sending out directives for citizens’ co-operation, when their own house is far from being in order.
Yours faithfully,
