All of Bartica was in darkness last night following almost three weeks of load-shedding that saw sections of the area receiving power for a few hours at a time.
Stabroek News was told last evening that there had been no power for the entire day yesterday and phone calls to the Guyana Power & Light (GPL) were ringing out last evening.
According to reports reaching this newspaper, the GPL station at Bartica has three generators. Consumers had been informed that one of the generators had a problem; shortly after they were told that two of the generators had problems.
Residents said they were not complaining as they were receiving power for between four hours and six hours a day. They were also being told via notices on the television that GPL workers were working on the generators.
Sometime on Wednesday night, they were told that half of the township would be without power. However, yesterday the entire area was without power, indicating that all three of the generators were down.
Stabroek News understands that the hospital has its own generator; a few businesses have as well and they remained open.
“The mosquitoes are out in their numbers and people cannot work their fans and most importantly people cannot get to watch the Cricket World Cup, something that everyone loves,” one resident said.
