Dear Editor,
As an educator and a disciplinarian, but moreso an ardent reader of your newspaper since it started, I would like to congratulate the Minister of Education, Mr Shaik Baksh MP concerning the banning of cell phones in schools. Many parents would want to say that giving a child a cell phone to take to school is for his/her safety and protection and to communicate in times of emergency. That may be true, but how many parents normally check to see what are in some of those phones and to know how annoying the music can sound during sessions in classrooms.
I do hope that the private schools also move to ban cell phones. I strongly feel that if a parent wanted to make contact with his/her child, such contact should be made through the school administration office, where the message will be passed on to the child.
Yours faithfully,
Patrick Ashford Roberts
