Dear Editor,
Mark Forde’s letter captioned “A new leader must be found to replace Corbin” (07.03.22) seems to be nothing more than an ill-informed planned attack against Mr Robert Corbin.
In the letter Forde started out by misinforming the readers by stating that Carol Joseph is a PNCR parliamentarian. Carol Joseph is a member of the Regional Democratic Council Region Five and someone who is not new to politics, in fact she has been a stalwart of the YSM for years. She is, therefore, not new to the political arena as Forde claimed.
The gentleman, in his letter, proceeded to attack the intellectual ability of four PNCR ladies he named, by stating that these ladies “lack intellectual inputs”. Whatever does he mean! He also accused two of them of “coming to Corbin’s rescue” because he claims “Corbin gave them a break”. While Forde is entitled to his opinion he must know that mere opinion, without substantiating facts or logic will only make him appear to be grasping at straws. And as for the argument that Corbin gave the two ladies a break then his action is in keeping with a long tradition of the PNC since the founder leader, Linden Forbes Sampson Burnham, gave a lot of people who were new to politics a break. And just like Forde is criticising Corbin, many criticised Burnham. Everyone must start somewhere.
Forde and his bandwagon must know that politics is all about people and it is the people who voted Corbin in and it is the people who will decide for themselves whether he should be booted out. No amount of media propaganda and fabricated publications against Mr Corbin will influence us. Since elected as party leader Corbin has demonstrated a sense of political maturity not known to Guyana in recent times. His unquestionable desire to see Guyana prosper reminds me of the late Desmond Hoyte and his struggle to see a just and fair Guyana.
Forde mentioned a number of people whom he states will do a better job than Corbin, but he did not say why he believes this. We need to know why he thinks so.
Yours faithfully,
Desire Lynette King
PNCR member
