Police last night held a group of men after a raid in Kitty.
At the end of the operation police mobile patrols with heavily armed officers escorted a group of men in a convoy of four cars from the Rolex Investment and Car Rental at 170 Barr Street, Kitty. The operation began around 9:30 pm and lasted almost forty-five minutes.
Police searched the premises but it is unclear what was recovered from the site and exactly how many persons were detained. The cars reportedly belong to the rental company. During the operation, police blocked off traffic at the Stanley Place and Alexander Street access points, diverting Route 40 buses and other vehicle from the usually busy street.
Since last year police have been involved in joint services raids in the city as part of a joint service operation to recover AK-47 rifles stolen from the Guyana Defence Force. A recent cordon and search operation in the city recovered an AK-47 rifle and three persons were subsequently arrested in connection with the find.
