Dear Editor,
No outcry from the public concerning the importation of a contaminated shipment of Soya. Often we are duped by the unscrupulous practices of businessmen whose sole purpose is profit. They blatantly disregard the health and safety of the public.
Salmonella, a bacterial infection that affects the intestinal tract, can cause diaorrhoea, fever, dehydration, abdominal pain and vomiting. Serious cases can result in death.
I am surprised that a judge issued an order to release a product after the originator of the product warned of its harmful effects if released and deemed it necessary to order the ship back, and to dispose of this contaminated shipment under their direct supervision.
The public should support the Ministry of Agriculture.
Yours faithfully,
Sydney Tait
